You probably know how important vegetables and fruits are for your overall health and guavas are part of that group. They have phytochemicals and they can protect your body in many ways. Vitamin A is going to help in giving you more support to the immune system, better skin and better eye health too.

You can get Vitamin C from other veggies and fruits too but guavas are higher in Vitamin C than just about every other veggie and fruit. In one medium-sized guava you will get over two-hundred percent of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C. This is an excellent anti-oxidant that protects your cells from chronic illnesses. The layer beneath the skin needs Vitamin C as well to stay healthy.


You should be getting more fiber and a great way to do that is by eating guavas. You can get fiber form other things such as whole grains, nuts, legumes, seeds, vegetables and other fruits. You should eat a variety of all these things. Eating one medium-sized guava will give you approximately three grams fiber and you should get just under forty grams each day.


Another thing you should be getting each day is potassium and you can get that from guavas as well. Under two percent of Americans get the right amount of potassium every day. You can become one of those great men. Potassium is very important for maintaining fluids in your body, signaling muscles and nerves as well. One medium-sized guava has approximately two-hundred thirty milligrams potassium. That is about six percent of the daily recommended values.


Guavas also have quite a bit of folate in them. You need this in addition to other vitamins and minerals. In one medium-sized guava you will get about twenty percent of your daily recommended values for folate. Folate is helpful in creating new cells to heal sores, grow hair and nails and to create healthier skin too.

Side Effects from Guavas

There are not side effects from eating guavas. The only thing to note is greatly raising your intake of fiber quickly could cause digestive issues. If you slowly start eating more guavas, you should be fine.

You want to get health benefits from different sources of food and you can do this. You want to make sure you are able to change up the fruits and vegetables that you eat. With guavas, you are able to get many benefits and it is a tasty food to eat as well.
